The theologian and philosopher St. Thomas Aquinas (1224-1274), a man of great intelligence and wisdom, prepared the work "Catena Aurea" (Golden Chain) or "Commentaries on the Gospels" in order to comment on the four Gospels of the Bible. In this work, he presents the comments made on the Gospel of St. Matthew by compiling excerpts from the works of both Greek and Latin Church Fathers. This work is one of the most famous of this type of medieval Latin compilations (13th century) and is of great value as some of the patristic writings can only be found through them since the originals have been lost.
Readers who wish to delve into the study of the Gospel according to St. Matthew (Volume I, Chapters 1-13, corresponding chapters 14-28 can be found in Volume II) can do so through this work by consulting each chapter and verse.
