CATHOLIC EDITION Volume II: Commentary on Sts. Mark & Luke - The Golden Chain Of St. Thomas Aquinas

For the first time, a Catholic version of the Catena Aurea in English has been published. Loreto has created the first Catholic edition of the commentaries of the Fathers and Doctors collected by Saint Thomas Aquinas in the 13th century. This edition features in-line citations, Douay-Rheims biblical texts, modern easy-to-read fonts, and updated references to original documents, including online sources. We have been working on this project sporadically for several years, and we believe it far surpasses the Protestant versions offered by other Catholic publishers.

Editor’s Introduction Congratulations on holding the very first Catholic edition of the Golden Chain (Catena Aurea) of Saint Thomas Aquinas in English. This collection of commentaries from the Fathers and Doctors of the Church, compiled by St. Thomas in the 13th century, has been a cornerstone of Catholic biblical scholarship. Originally published in Latin, it was first translated into English by High Anglican scholars and published in 1842. However, our edition addresses the shortcomings of that Protestant version by using the Catholic Douay-Rheims Bible, integrating the names of the Fathers and Doctors seamlessly into the text, updating footnotes and references, and enhancing readability with a modern font.
